CaRD Connector — Azure Blob Storage edition

The CaRD Connector links SAP S/4HANA with Azure Blob Storage. Your storage account becomes a full content repository: documents from the SAP document management system and from object storage land directly in blob storage, without a classic archive system in between.

Technically the connector speaks CMIS 1.1 (browser binding) — the interface S/4HANA provides for external content repositories. The SAP DMS certification (TCK) has been passed, so the interplay is not reverse-engineered but proven against SAP's own test suite. The same connector is available for SAP ArchiveLink as well if you need classic document storage — both protocols can run in parallel on the same storage.

Why Azure adds up as an archive

Blob storage offers access tiers from hot through cool to archive. Because records are barely read after a short while yet kept for decades, the cost per document drops considerably once storage moves automatically into the cheaper tier. You set the rules in Azure; the connector handles the tiers.

Search instead of scan

So that millions of objects do not force a full container scan, the connector writes the relevant attributes as Azure blob index tags and translates queries onto them server-side. CMIS properties can also be mapped to native Azure metadata so your documents stay analysable for other tools in the tenant.

Optional: AI classification

On request we connect an AI classification that categorises stored documents outside S/4 — recognising document types, extracting attributes, spotting duplicates. The result goes into the index tags or metadata so departments without SAP access can find documents through search instead of clicking through folder structures.
