CaRD LSR — legacy system retirement
Keeping a legacy system alive just so someone can still look things up is the most expensive form of retention. LSR ends that.
After a migration or a system change a legacy system almost always stays up — not because it is needed, but because someone must still be able to look inside. It costs licences, maintenance, operation, hardware and regular security patching while contributing nothing functionally. Across a typical ten-year retention period that adds up considerably.
CaRD LSR ends that state: we transfer the data, records and documents subject to retention out of the legacy system into an archive and make them available through a dedicated research front end — readable, searchable and analysable without the source system running.
What is taken over
Not only transactional and master data are covered but also the edges where decommissioning projects tend to fail: the contents of the archive system, document records and attachments (GOS), output data from DART and ADK, as well as cluster and pool access. The approach works for SAP systems as well as for ERP systems from other vendors.
What it delivers
The running cost of the legacy system disappears entirely while you continue to meet retention obligations — at the price of an archive rather than the price of a system. Research is also available to users who never had access to the legacy system, such as the tax department or an external audit.
Interplay with cloud archiving
Any of the storages served by the CaRD Connector qualifies as a target — Azure, AWS S3, SharePoint Online or STACKIT. Legacy holdings and ongoing storage therefore end up on the same infrastructure, and you do not operate two archive worlds side by side.
